For the Love of Audrey

You know the feeling you get when you bump into an old friend-the feeling is a warm and fuzzy one-well, that is how I would describe my experience today when I stepped inside the beautiful Anna Thomas boutique, Hawksburn.  I was greeted by Eva, she was attentive to my needs and my style aesthetic-showing me a few piece she thought would work, I was wearing a pair of Megan Salmon linen pants in a mustard, almost chartreuse colour. I found a blush pink cotton/silk short sleeve pussy bow blouse (lucky for me it was on sale) and another top from the new AW '26 collection in a dusty pink-Merino wool, with long sleeves (Look One). The sizing is on the slimmer side, which is fantastic as I am slim and most brands are so oversized! I decided to take the tram in to the city the other day. The weather was not too hot, not too cold. Perfect for a stroll and a little bit of retail therapy. I knew there were a few clothing items I had my eye on, so needed to wear something that was easy to take on and put back on.  I chose my favourite white dress by Ciao Lucia as it features an elastic back and easy tie which you tie up to make a bow. This crisp white cotton dress has a lovely lace detail on the bodice and a beautiful drape on the skirt. I knew it would look so Summery worn with my gorgeous handmade straw basket, made by the African ladies from Manabaskets . Of course, the only pair of comfortable shoes I can walk in without getting sore feet are my trusty ballet flats by Chloe , in the most stunning and versatile, chameleon colour, pewter.  I felt so wonderful in this outfit. Every year we absolutely love celebrating Valentine's Day and this year was no exception. I have been fortunate that my husband could take time off work to spend the day with me. There were so many options of what we could do and where to go, places like the countryside in the Yarra Valley or beach town of Torquay, but we ultimately decided to stay in Melbourne, as the weather was going to be around 23 degrees Celsius. There are many choice of cafes in Melbourne, but one of our favourites is  Hello Sailor . I first stumbled upon this quaint cafe when shopping in Auburn Village, located in the leafy suburb of Hawthorn. I pre- ordered an almond croissant as they often sell out and since I cannot eat garlic nor onion, I am very limited with choices. Hubby chose the beef tacos which he enjoyed with a fresh juice and I enjoyed the loose leaf Earl Grey, which is served in the chicest see-through tea pot. The weather here in Melbourne, Australia, over the past couple of days has been on the cooler side-in the 20s. Since it has been a little cool for tank tops, I needed to add more short sleeved tops to my wardrobe.  One of the more affordable brands I have purchased from is the Target  Petites collection  I am very selective though and only buy what I feel is the best quality for the price. I found a lovely blush pink sleeveless 100% cotton blouse with pintuck and ruffle details- you would have seen on my Instagram (don't forget to follow me there too). Once I purchase a new item of clothing, I keep the receipt handy and go home and try it on with several other items in my wardrobe. The top goes nicely with my new Alemais linen embroidered shorts-they are pink but also have splashes of the same colour as the top throughout and within some of the embroidery. Melbourne based designer Olga de Polga  is renowned for their use of colour and vibrant patterns. I really enjoy adding a pop of colour when I style outfits, so if you love colour, you are bound to find something fabulous. On my recent visit, I picked up two pairs of Lillian pants, a new style to ODP, in both pink and caramel. These colours go so well with other pieces in my wardrobe. Style tip: I will not add anything to my wardrobe if it doesn't go with other pieces, so I am very particular when choosing a new piece to add to my collection. The cords fit really well, sitting at mid-waist and fall at the perfect length. The CHANEL Fall/Winter Haute Couture 2023/24 was streamed live on Instagram this evening. The show took place along the banks of the Seine, beneath the famous Eiffel Tower. Striking combinations of colours were seen, along with ruffles, bow details on dresses and pattern clashing.  The looks were heavy on embellishments with the Houses' flower, the Camellia, along with hydrangeas and daisies, in a multicoloured kaleidoscope of colours. Twisted rope-like belts adorned models' waistlines and signature gold buttons adorned blazers. Surprising colour combinations were seen, such as red, black and charcoal, as well as orange, pink and gold.  My favourite from the collection was indeed the last look, as it reminded me of a modern take on the bridal gown Audrey Hepburn wore in the movie, 'Funny Face'.  The gown was simple, with a bow detail at the collar, longer sleeves and a shorter, fuller skirt, worn with a short veil. One of my favourite designer brands is Burberry , London. My Burberry ready to wear pieces and accessories are on rotation in my closet on a regular basis. They are pieces I love to wear. As you may have seen on my Instagram feed and reel, last Saturday, we headed into the Burberry Boutique on Collins Street, Melbourne to look at the latest collection.  I f you have never been there before, it is worth the trip. The boutique is magnificent, especially the winding staircase leading up to the women's ready-to-wear.  We enjoyed French champagne poured into a crystal-etched champagne glass, adding to the opulent experience.  Our sales assistant was so lovely! She listened carefully to what I was looking for and showed me a variety of options, along with style advice. For years on and off I have tried many different ways to make my wardrobe work for me. I used to have a separate teaching/work clothes section for convenience but since I recently retired from teaching, I donated all of my work clothes to charity, hence I no longer have the need for separate sections. I used to have my clothing sectioned into shirts, pants, skirts, coats etc..Then I tried putting them together within the sections in colour spectrum, from light to dark, and used a couple of images from Google to help me put them into the right order. That worked for a while, but wasn't really helping me. It was pretty easy to find the garment though, but it wasn't perfect.   Low and behold during a recent Spring-cleaning frenzy (insert picture of a crazy woman dressed in a nightie and fluffy slippers, hair undone, makeup-less-you get the picture) I had a brain wave to section my entire wardrobe into the same colour stories, from white/light to dark/black, with the other colour ...

It's been some time between posts as I have been waiting for something to inspire me. So when one of my favourite designers, Sandy Liang, released the look book from her new Fall/Winter '22 collection, I was so excited, that I decided to edit these looks into ten of my favourites. Sandy Liang stays true to her aesthetic each season. Like previous collections, there are hints of Marie Antoinette and Ballet. The way Sandy Liang fuses the two together is amazing. I am drawn to anything to do with ballet, so, of course, I love this collection! My favourite pieces are the cotton dresses with bow detailing, the trench coat dress, camel corduroy skirt pants and layered knitwear. So wearable, but whimsical in a very grown-up kind of way. A couple of years back, I was so disappointed to discover that the beautiful Ralph Lauren Boutique in Collins Street, Melbourne, was closing its doors. Unfortunately for me,  it was actually closing permanently. I loved shopping at Ralph Lauren because they were the only store in Melbourne to carry the high-end Ralph Lauren Collection , otherwise known as Purple Label. So began the search for a store in Australia. Unfortunately, there was no good news, after several phone calls and emails to and fro from customer service. My absolute favourite label, the Ralph Lauren Collection, would sadly become a distant, fading memory.  Fast track forward to 2020-the year of surprises; a year proven to be vastly different and challenging, for many reasons which need no mention,  I found out some very exciting news which was like absolute music to my ears! Gucci's new collections just keep getting better and better. Led by creative designer aka creative genius,  Allessandro Michele since 2015, this new Gucci Fall Winter '20 collection is no exception.  Born in 1972, 70s style has always been a great influence for Michele. This collection sees a resurgence of the fashion worn by perfect little girls and their minders, nurses and nuns.  I was born in 1970 (I am admittedly one year older than Michele) and this collection has stirred up some very lovely memories of dressing up in my favourite navy velvet dress with shirring and ribbons. I remember wearing sweet little girl pinafores, one of which included my grey pinafore school uniform. I proudly wore my long prairie embroidered dresses  with the prettiest of cotton materials,  made lovingly by my mother, along with perfectly crafted knitwear and crochet, adorned with the most of darling of brooches. F L A N N E L , the Australian designer label of Perth-born designer Kristy Lawrence, was created back in 2006. Kristy's first piece was a feminine silk slip, which, 13 years on, remains the backbone of each new collection. Currently Kristy has a grand total of 17 stores spread across Australia and the USA, the latest being Rundle Street, Adelaide. The clothing is feminine, easy to wear and luxurious, using only the finest of silks, wool and cottons. I love the fact that Kristy has taken the guess work out of styling as colour ways and styles have been chosen carefully so they coordinate seamlessly with other garments from each collection. I had the pleasure of visiting the Albert Park boutique yesterday. Sadly, I didn't take any photographs, probably because I was so in awe of everything and so excited to find a piece to add to my closet. I was really well attended to by Rachel, who had an amazing eye for design and an amazingly effortless, chic style....

Pre-Fall Collection AW 2019 I was quite worried about the vision of new chief creative director for Burberry, Riccardo Tisci, for some time, up until recently. When he made his debut with the British high end designer label back in March, 2018, he really did push things to the extreme with his collections in the beginning. Fashionistas and style gurus on social media were quite disgruntled by Tisci's new revolutionary vision, while I wondered where on earth all of the classics had disappeared to.  Was this the end of Burberry's heritage as we knew it? I have been in awe of Burberry's classics designs for many years now, especially when Christopher Bailey was at Burberry's helm. When he left, I was quite devastated and a little apprehensive and wondered what would be next for the brand I so adored.  Fast forward to 2019, the classics have returned full throttle to Burberry's collections and my excitement has been renewed once again.
