Style vs Fashion

Can I have great style without being in fashion? The answer is yes, of course. Great style does not mean wearing the latest trends. Trends come and go, but real style lasts a lifetime.

I would rather have great style than to wear the latest trends. I am not a trendsetter, but rather a person who looks to the classics. I believe in investment dressing, which means buying timeless pieces that will still remain stylish, year after year and time after time.

Yes, I love some trends that come and go, such as the liberty prints, pastels and lace. However, I can't see any point in wearing head-to-toe trends. What I prefer, is to select a trend and work this into my existing wardrobe. That way, it keeps the look fresh and chic. It's also a way to save money in the long run, since it's pretty much like shopping in your closet.

I look to style icons, such as Audrey Hepburn, for inspiration. She was a woman who truly reflected the very essence of classic, timeless style. I'm sure that Audrey still managed to have a little fun with trends as well, no doubt, whilst staying true to herself.

So, tell me if you agree or not that you don't have to have be wearing the latest trends to be a person who exudes great style. What are your thoughts?

I have had one of the busiest weeks all year with typing student reports. I'm looking forward to submitting them next week!! I hope your week has been fabulous! Have you got anything special planned for the weekend?

Yours in style,

  1. I like your way of presentation. I also look for long run fashion trends...

  2. If there's one person who captured the essence of style over fashion, it was Audrey! I fully agree - trends can be fun, but being true to yourself in terms of what suits you is so much more important! Hope you've been well love!

French nautical

Ilove stripes, especially navy & white. It's very Parisian chic! My favourite Breton striped cashmere/silk blend sweater has been the absolute best investment of all time.

There are trends that come and go and then there are classics. I tend to steer towards the classics. The striped boatneck sweater is yet another timeless piece which should live in everyone's closet.

I stumbled across some old pics of movie starlets wearing nautical stripes, such as my favourite style icon, Audrey Hepburn. Years have passed and the striped sweater still looks as fabulous as it did back in its heyday.

This sweater I'm wearing is by Australian label Bezoar. They seem to have fallen off the radar at present, so I hope that in the future I can purchase another one like this!

This is my go-to outfit for comfort and style when I need to run some errands. What's yours?
Hoping that your weekend was fabulous and your week is even better!

Top 5: Miu Miu Edit S/S '19

Another live stream runway show I had the pleasure of viewing was the Miu Miu Spring/Summer '19 show live from Paris Fashion Week. A highlight included looks from the red carpet as worn by famous models, actresses and digital influences, such as Australia's very own Margaret Zhang. Another highlight included seeing the image projection of models onto the new Miu Miu logo. Although, seemingly "out there", it was a very interesting and exciting way to begin the show.

I loved the bow details as seen on blouses, headbands, eyewear and shoes. Tailored blazers and coats from an array of luxe fabrics were seen in the majority of looks from the collection.

The new Spring/Summer '19 Miu Miu collecion captures the very essence of the brand: feminine, chic and girly. Lots of sparkles, glitter and crystals featured in the new collection, an element that has become Miu Miu's signature. I couldn't help but capture tiny hints reminiscent of the 1920s "Flapper Girl&…

V & A "Balenciaga: Shaping Fashion Exhibition"

I am thrilled to announce that, thanks to London's Victoria and Albert Museum, a fabulous exhibition, "Balenciaga: Shaping Fashion" is coming to the Bendigo Arts Gallery this Winter. The exhibition is timely, as this year marks the centenary of the first Balenciaga fashion house.

The exhibition will showcase the legacy of the house designer, Cristobel Balenciaga and will include his designs, which revolutionised what we know today as contemporary fashion.

"Balenciaga: Shaping Fashion" opens August 17 until November 10, 2019 at Bendigo Arts Gallery, 42 View Street, Bendigo.
