Saving Ojay

So It seems that yet another Australian designer boutique, Ojay, may have to close its doors, after they have appointed an administrator to help them through one of the most difficult periods after 36 years in the retail industry. Things seem to be quite tough out there for some, and what's making it even more competitive is throwing international chain stores, such as Zara and Top Shop, in the mix.

It does sadden me though that the clothing stores which I grew up getting to know and love, are having to call it quits. Especially stores such as Ojay. Every time I would see or hear the name Ojay, I would straight away think of orange juice!! Before you think, I think she's gone mad for those of you who live overseas, in Australia, Ojay is slang for orange juice. 

Where will it end though, I wonder? Will the retail giants eventually take over the smaller ones? God, I hope not. These Australian fashion houses are what helps the fashion world go 'round. In my opinion, we can't live without them and, boy, what a boring world it would be if we all dressed exactly the same because we only had a handful of shops to choose from! An exaggeration perhaps, but it could be the scary truth if things continue on this way. 

So guys, what are your thoughts on this? How can we save businesses, such as Ojay?

On a non-fashion note, the weather here in Melbourne has been quite mild. However, today's milder weather brought along with it winds of up to 100kms/hr!! At work today, we had to keep the students indoors because of the strong winds. Let's hope the wind dies down for tomorrow!

gelati in the gardens

I was joking with my better half about the outfit I chose to wear to our special family reunion. We needed to travel into the city to the Fitzroy Gardens, and on our journey, we kept eachother entertained by thinking of gelati flavours which matched my oufit. Ballistic for Bally

I have always loved Bally , especially their shoes. They're made with the softest, luxurious leather I have ever worn. Bally were my first ever pair of high end designer shoes and they fit like a glove. So this post is going to be dedicated to one of the most prestigious design houses and their amazingly comfortable, chic shoes.  Here's some of my favourites from Bally's new S/S '12 collection: Which is your favourite? Olga De Polga

Melbourne based designer Olga de Polga  is renowned for their use of colour and vibrant patterns. I really enjoy adding a pop of colour when I style outfits, so if you love colour, you are bound to find something fabulous. On my recent visit, I picked up two pairs of Lillian pants, a new style to ODP, in both pink and caramel. These colours go so well with other pieces in my wardrobe. Style tip: I will not add anything to my wardrobe if it doesn't go with other pieces, so I am very particular when choosing a new piece to add to my collection. The cords fit really well, sitting at mid-waist and fall at the perfect length. The corduroy fabric is soft and feels so cosy, so perfect for Winter here in Melbourne!  Have you visited Olga de Polga? If so, what are your favourite pieces?
