Shopping on a Budget

The weather here in Melbourne, Australia, over the past couple of days has been on the cooler side-in the 20s. Since it has been a little cool for tank tops, I needed to add more short sleeved tops to my wardrobe.

One of the more affordable brands I have purchased from is the Target Petites collection  I am very selective though and only buy what I feel is the best quality for the price. I found a lovely blush pink sleeveless 100% cotton blouse with pintuck and ruffle details- you would have seen on my Instagram (don't forget to follow me there too).

Once I purchase a new item of clothing, I keep the receipt handy and go home and try it on with several other items in my wardrobe. The top goes nicely with my new Alemais linen embroidered shorts-they are pink but also have splashes of the same colour as the top throughout and within some of the embroidery. I also tried on the top with my blush pants, as well as my newly acquired
Country Road
shorts. Since I could find more than two pieces that I can wear with the new top, I decided to keep it. If it had not worked, I would have promptly returned it.

I like pairing non-designer with designer. As I mentioned, I am selective. I see beyond the label on the tag and if an item looks more expensive, is good quality and made of natural fabrics, I will buy it. I also am saving money shopping this way.

I hope you get some ideas for your own and please share any of your style tips in the comments. Also don't forget to subscribe to my style blog and my Instagram!

Yours in style,

gelati in the gardens

I was joking with my better half about the outfit I chose to wear to our special family reunion. We needed to travel into the city to the Fitzroy Gardens, and on our journey, we kept eachother entertained by thinking of gelati flavours which matched my oufit. In the end we decided upon raspberry, strawberry, vanilla & mango! The morning was quite fresh, so I decided to wear a layer of silk/cashmere over my silk chiffon shirt. This magical blend always comes through when I'm in need of extra warmth and comfort. This ensemble was the perfect match for my raspberry coloured skirt!  For a picnic, flats seemed like the perfect choice, because of their practicality. So I decided to bring a touch of mango to the gelati mix! These mustard coloured, patent leather ballet flats, are so chic and comfortable. They are one of my favourite pairs of Repetto ballet flats, purchased from the fabulous Alice & Deb at Treasurette. Check out ...

Olga De Polga

Melbourne based designer Olga de Polga  is renowned for their use of colour and vibrant patterns. I really enjoy adding a pop of colour when I style outfits, so if you love colour, you are bound to find something fabulous. On my recent visit, I picked up two pairs of Lillian pants, a new style to ODP, in both pink and caramel. These colours go so well with other pieces in my wardrobe. Style tip: I will not add anything to my wardrobe if it doesn't go with other pieces, so I am very particular when choosing a new piece to add to my collection. The cords fit really well, sitting at mid-waist and fall at the perfect length. The corduroy fabric is soft and feels so cosy, so perfect for Winter here in Melbourne!  Have you visited Olga de Polga? If so, what are your favourite pieces? If you haven't been in store yet, make sure you do so soon, because some styles are selling out really fast. Have a great rest of the week! Grace Kelly: Style Icon

Some of you may know already that I recently went on a country  girls' getaway with my mother to Bendigo to view the Grace Kelly: A Style Icon exhibition. I am so thrilled that I did! It was simply amazing.  The package I purchased was the Country Girls' Getaway, which included one nights accomadation at the City Centre Motel (4 star), breakfast, in-house Grace Kelly Movies, plus 2 x tickets to the exhibition. The special pack I received upon check-in, which included a terrific shopping and dining guide, special discounts and maps. The exhibition was held at the Bendigo Art Gallery. The session was timed by the hour to prevent the influx of visitors, which I felt worked really well. There was plenty of room and I didn't feel like I needed to hurry up, so instead, took my time, taking in every detail. I could have spent all day looking at every single minute detail of each and every one of the stunning gowns that adorned this beau...
